Your Window Treatments Need To Be Well Chosen

When you are making your home feel like your home, you will need to be sure you are taking every detail seriously. You don't want to end up with a home that sort of looks good but still doesn't feel that great. You are going to be spending most of your time there so think about it before you execute. I would rather end up spending more time in an incomplete home, than try to get it done as fast as possible before I really had an idea of what I want. This all goes as well for window treatments, which can be re-done quite quickly, but why waste the money on something that isn't right.

Normally when people think about window treatments, they first think about the curtains and valances. Yeah that is true they are the most visible part of your windows, but you should also think about shades or blinds for your windows. This is something that isn't so easily replaced as curtains, and can create a whole other look in your home.

There are a few ground rules that apply for choosing the blinds and here are a few:

  1. If your windows are high, from floor to the ceiling, you will want to have vertical blinds. It would be too much of work to pull them up when you want to uncover the window, and it is going to be unpractical.
  2. For smaller windows you could go either with horizontal blinds, or romain blinds.
  3. You don't have to get adjustable blinds but you could also go with rolling blinds that are actually like a curtain, but still considered as blinds. You can pull them up and get them out of the way and unseen if you have a valance.

There are modern options like cellular blinds that should be used on their own, and I definitely would not use them in small windows - they are something that can be quite spectacular so you might want to keep them on their own if you choose to use them. The impression can be quite messy if you try to mix them up too much.

For small windows you could be well offwith just a valance and rolling blinds - you can choose the colors and materials to match your interior design, and since the window is quite small, I would not make the window treatments anyhting too spectacular - you kind of want to pull the attention somewhere else. The larger windows are the ones that need to be surrounded with something gorgeous so that you will enjoy looking at them.

Never forget practicality, and even if you want to have light curtains, you should have something that you can use to blackout the window. There are going to be situations where you want total darkness in the room, and if you don't have a roll up blackout curtain hidden behind the valance, you will regret it when you need it.
